Duane Kuiper Autographs
Duane Eugene Kuiper is a retired American professional baseball player and current television broadcaster. He was born on June 19, 1950, in Racine, Wisconsin. Kuiper played in the Major League Baseball (MLB) as a second baseman for 12 seasons from 1974 to 1985, amassing 1,082 hits, 281 RBIs, and a .271 batting average. He was known for his defensive prowess, recording a .989 fielding percentage and winning the Gold Glove Award in 1980.
Kuiper began his professional baseball career after being drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the 1972 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut on September 9, 1974, and played for the Indians for eight seasons before being traded to the San Francisco Giants in 1982. He played his last three seasons with the Giants, retiring after the 1985 season. Despite being a light hitter, Kuiper helped his teams win two American League Eastern Division titles with the Indians in 1976 and 1980 and an National League Western Division title with the Giants in 1987.
After his playing career, Kuiper began working as a television broadcaster. He started with the Giants broadcaster team in 1987, primarily providing commentary for the team's radio broadcasts. Kuiper later transitioned to providing color commentary for the team's television broadcasts in the early 1990s. He has since become a staple of the Giants broadcasting team, working alongside fellow broadcaster Mike Krukow. Kuiper has been praised for his knowledge of the game, his storytelling, and his humor, making him a beloved figure in the San Francisco Bay Area.
