Duffy Dyer

Duffy Dyer, born in Dayton, Ohio in 1945, is a former American professional baseball catcher who played in the major leagues for thirteen seasons. Dyer attended Arizona State University where he played college baseball and was eventually drafted into the major leagues by the New York Mets in 1966. He played for the Mets from 1968-1972 and again from 1975-1977, helping the team win their first World Series in 1969. Dyer also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Montreal Expos, and Detroit Tigers throughout his career. More about Duffy Dyer

Throughout his career, Duffy Dyer was known for his catching skills and his ability to handle a variety of pitchers. He was also known for his reliability and consistency on the field, rarely making errors behind the plate. Although he was never an all-star player, Dyer's contributions to his teams were highly appreciated by his managers and teammates. After retiring from baseball in 1981, Dyer went on to become a coach and scout for various minor league teams before retiring completely from baseball in 1997.
