Dwight Smith, born in 1963 in Tallahassee, Florida, is a former American professional baseball player who primarily played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball. Smith played for eight seasons in the MLB, representing the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, and California Angels. Smith made his Major League debut on September 2, 1987, and quickly established himself as an impact player for the Cubs in his rookie year. He had a .295 batting average, 93 hits, 5 home runs, and 42 RBI in 97 games, earning him a fifth-place finish in the National League (NL) Rookie of the Year balloting. In 1989, he improved on his performance with a career-high .324 batting average, 145 hits, 16 home runs, and 81 RBI in 104 games.

After a successful career in the MLB, Smith played for one season in Japan before retiring from professional baseball. He ended his career with a .275 batting average, 851 hits, 30 home runs, and 311 RBI in 849 games. Since retiring from baseball, he has served as a coach and was a broadcast analyst for the Toronto Blue Jays. Dwight Smith's impressive career in Major League Baseball has made him a revered figure in the sport and a source of inspiration for aspiring baseball players.
