Earl Williams was born on July 14th, 1948 in Newark, New Jersey. Williams developed an interest in baseball while growing up and was a talented player. He eventually played for Newark Central High School, where he was a standout and earned a scholarship to Los Angeles Valley College. In 1967, he signed with the Atlanta Braves and began his minor league career in the rookie league. Williams' baseball career took off in 1971 when he recorded 33 home runs and 87 RBI's, winning the National League Rookie of the Year award. He became a power hitter and standout player in the league, hitting over 20 homeruns in each of his first five full seasons in the majors. From 1971 to 1974, Williams played for the Atlanta Braves, then was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 1975, and played there for two seasons.
