Earl Wilson was an American baseball pitcher, who was born on October 1, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama. He played professionally from 1959 to 1970, spending most of his career with the Boston Red Sox. In 1953, Wilson began his baseball career as an outfielder, but after a few years, he made the transition to pitcher. In 1959, he was signed by the Boston Red Sox, where he played for seven seasons. Throughout his career, Wilson became known for his hard-throwing fastball, and he finished his career with a total of 121 wins, with 1,435 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.69.

In 1963, Earl Wilson was the first African-American pitcher to win 20 games in a season. He helped lead the Red Sox to the American League pennant in 1967, where he won two of the three games in the World Series, helping the Red Sox to their first championship since 1918. After retiring from baseball as a player, Earl Wilson continued to work in the game as a minor league coach before passing away during a heart surgery in 2005. Today, Wilson is remembered as one of the most successful African-American pitchers in the history of baseball.
