Ed Brinkman was born on December 6, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was an American professional baseball player who played as shortstop for the Washington Senators from 1961 to 1970. Brinkman was known for his extraordinary fielding skills and was awarded the Gold Glove Award, which recognizes the best fielders in Major League Baseball. After the 1970 season, Brinkman was traded to the Detroit Tigers. There he played from 1971 to 1974 and continued to display his exceptional defensive skills in the outfield. Like his time with the Senators, he also played in almost every match with the Tigers during his four years with the team. Brinkman's final year in the Major League was in 1975, where he played for the St. Louis Cardinals. Throughout his illustrious 15-year career in the league, Brinkman amassed 715 runs, 1,184 hits, 47 home runs, and 527 runs batted in.

Following his playing career, Brinkman worked as a coach, minor league coordinator, and even scouted for various teams, including the Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals. Ed Brinkman died on September 30, 2008, in an automobile accident. He was remembered as one of the top defensive shortstops in baseball history and is still admired by baseball enthusiasts for his contributions to the game.
