In 1908, Ed Walsh had his best season, pitching over 464 innings with an ERA of 1.42, a remarkable feat that still stands as a record. Walsh finished the 1908 season with 40 complete games, 11 shutouts, and 269 strikeouts, which earned him the nickname "Big Ed." Walsh also led the White Sox to their first-ever World Series championship in 1906, starting three games and winning all three games. He helped the team to a 4-2 victory over the Cubs in the final game.

Despite the fact that he played during the so-called "dead-ball era," where baseball games typically had low-scoring games, Ed Walsh established himself as one of the best pitchers of his time. His career statistics include a 195-126 win-loss record, a 1.82 ERA, 1,736 strikeouts, and 246 complete games. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946, forever remembered as one of the game's greatest pitchers of all time. Read even more about Ed Walsh at Wikipedia
