During his career, Whitson had several notable moments, including winning a World Series championship with the New York Yankees in 1986. He was also named an All-Star in 1989 when he played for the San Diego Padres. Overall, Whitson compiled a record of 126-123, an ERA of 3.79, and 1,265 strikeouts over 2,222 innings pitched.

Whitson's career was not without controversy, however. He famously had a tumultuous time with the Yankees, where he was signed to a five-year, $4.4 million contract in 1985. He struggled in his first season with the team and was demoted to the minor leagues. He also had public clashes with team owner George Steinbrenner, which led to him being traded to the San Diego Padres in 1986. Despite these challenges, Whitson is remembered as a talented pitcher who contributed to several teams throughout his career. Read even more about Ed Whitson at Wikipedia
