Eddie Ainsmith Autograph

Eddie Ainsmith was one of the most skilled catchers in the Major League Baseball during the early 1900s. Born on February 4, 1890, in one of the poorest parts of Washington D.C., Ainsmith grew up in abject poverty. He joined the Washington Senators in 1910 at the age of 19 but only played in one game that season. His real break came in 1912 when he became the team's starting catcher. Ainsmith made a name for himself as a defensive stalwart, an excellent thrower, and an outstanding game-caller. His contributions behind the plate helped the Senators win their first American League pennant in 1924. More about Eddie Ainsmith

Ainsmith's playing career spanned from 1910 to 1924, and he retired with a career batting average of .240, 523 RBIs, and 531 hits.

After retiring from the game, Ainsmith remained active in baseball as a coach and manager. He coached for numerous Minor League teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, and managed the Oakland Oaks from 1927 to 1929. He helped develop many promising players and was known for his ability to teach baseball fundamentals. Although Ainsmith's baseball career is long gone, his legacy remains.
