Eddie Dyer Autographs
Eddie Dyer was a professional baseball player and manager with an impressive career both on the field and in the dugout. Born on October 11, 1899, in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania, Dyer began his baseball career as a pitcher in the minor leagues. He played for several teams, including the Rochester Red Wings and the Jersey City Giants, before making his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1922.
During his playing years, Dyer was known as a talented left-handed pitcher and a solid hitter. He played for the Cardinals until 1927, then moved to the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds before ending his playing career in the minor leagues in 1930. Dyer then transitioned to managing, serving as a minor league manager for several years before being named the manager for the Cardinals in 1946.
In his first year as manager, Dyer led the Cardinals to their sixth World Series championship, earning him the title of National League Manager of the Year. He managed the team until 1950, then went on to manage the Philadelphia Phillies for a year before retiring from baseball in 1951. Over his 30-year career in baseball, Eddie Dyer made a lasting impact on the game, both as a player and a manager, and will always be remembered as one of the greats.
