Yost’s professional baseball career began in 1944, when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers after graduating from high school. However, he spent the first few years of his career in the minors playing for various teams. Yost quickly became known for his ability to get on base. In fact, he is often referred to as “The Walking Man.” During his 18-year career, Yost had a .254 batting average, but his on-base percentage was .394. He drew a total of 1,614 walks, which ranks fifth all-time among players who have played in the modern era. In addition to his impressive on-base ability, Yost was a skilled defender, winning two Gold Glove Awards in 1958 and 1960.

Yost played for three different teams over the course of his career, including the Washington Senators (1948-1958), the Detroit Tigers (1959-1960), and the Los Angeles Angels (1961-1962). After retiring as a player, Yost stayed involved with baseball, working as a coach for various teams, including the Washington Senators, the New York Mets, and the Boston Red Sox.
