Eddy Alvarez is a professional baseball player who currently plays in the minor league system of the Miami Marlins. Born on January 30, 1990, in Miami, Florida, Alvarez had a passion for sports from an early age. He was a standout athlete in various sports, including soccer and track but ultimately decided to pursue a career in baseball, which he considers his first love.
After being signed by the Chicago White Sox in 2014, Alvarez began his professional baseball career in the Arizona League, where he batted .346 in 46 games played. In 2015, he reached the Double-A level, where he batted .249 in 118 games played, showcasing his strong defensive skills as a second baseman. The following year, he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks organization and continued his steady progress through the minor league ranks.
Apart from his baseball career, Alvarez is also an accomplished speed skater who represented the United States at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where he won a silver medal in the 5000m relay. He is one of the few athletes to have competed at both the Winter and Summer Olympics, as he was part of the United States baseball team that won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
