Elliot Johnson is a former American professional baseball player who was born on March 9, 1984, in Safford, Arizona. He attended Tempe High School in Tempe, Arizona, and then went on to play college baseball at the University of Arizona. Johnson was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 14th round of the 2002 Major League Baseball draft and began his professional career in the minor leagues.
Johnson made his Major League Baseball debut with the Devil Rays in 2008 and played for them until 2012. He also played for the Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and Miami Marlins during his career. Johnson was primarily a utility player who could play multiple positions, including shortstop, second base, and center field. He was known for his speed on the basepaths and his defensive versatility, making him a valuable asset to any team.
Throughout his career, Johnson had several notable achievements. In 2012, he hit his first career grand slam while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays. He also stole a career-high 18 bases that season. In 2014, Johnson helped lead the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers to the Pacific Coast League championship, earning himself the championship series MVP award. After retiring from baseball, Johnson became a coach and has worked in various roles in player development and scouting for the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers organizations.
