Ernie Whitt Autographs
Ernie Whitt is a former professional baseball player who played as a catcher in the Major League Baseball for 15 seasons. He was born on June 13, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan. Whitt played high school baseball in Canada before he was signed as a free agent by the Boston Red Sox in 1972. He spent the next few years playing in the minor leagues before he made his big league debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1977.
Whitt quickly became a fan favorite and an all-star player during his time with the Blue Jays. He played for the team from 1977 to 1989 and was a part of the 1985 American League East championship team. In addition to his impressive defensive skills, he was also a reliable hitter, batting .269 with 134 home runs and 534 RBIs during his career. Whitt also set a Major League Baseball record for most games caught in a season without an error, playing 146 games without an error during the 1985 season.
After leaving the Blue Jays, Whitt played for the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles before retiring in 1991. He then started a coaching career, working as a bench coach for the Blue Jays in 2002 before joining the Canadian national baseball team as a manager in 2004. Whitt's contribution to the game of baseball was recognized in 2016 when he was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Today, Whitt is remembered as one of the greatest catchers in Blue Jays' history, and his legacy continues to inspire young players.
