Floyd C. Baker is a former professional baseball player born on October 10, 1916, in Luray, Virginia. He was a versatile athlete who played both infield and outfield positions. Baker began his baseball career in 1931 in the Pembroke League with the Narrows team. During his time with the White Sox, Baker became known for his outstanding defense and baserunning skills. He played in 11 Major League seasons, primarily serving as a utility player. Throughout his career, Baker was known for his speed and was often brought in as a pinch-runner in key situations. He became the first player in Major League history to steal at least 20 bases in a season without ever having a plate appearance. Baker retired from baseball in 1955 but remained involved in the sport as a coach and scout for several years.

In his 11 seasons in the Major Leagues, Baker batted .257 with 759 hits, 311 runs scored, and 295 stolen bases. He was known for his quick reflexes and excellent arm accuracy. In addition to his impressive fielding, Baker also led the league in stolen bases twice and was named to the American League All-Star team in 1951. Throughout his career, Baker earned a reputation as a hardworking, unselfish team player who consistently contributed to his team's success.
