Frank Baumholtz Autographs
Frank Baumholtz was born on October 7, 1918, in Midland, Ohio, USA. He was an American professional baseball player who played as a center fielder for eight seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1947 to 1955. Frank started his career with the Cincinnati Reds in 1947, and he became an instant sensation. He showed blistering speed on the base paths and the ability to get things going with his bat, which made him a regular starter with the team. He was instrumental in the Reds' capturing of the National League pennant in 1949.
Baumholtz did not just have natural talent; he also possessed the rare quality of versatility. He was an excellent hitter who could play in multiple positions, such as center, left, or right field. Baumholtz’s hitting ability was further confirmed in 1952 when he led the NL league with 197 hits, and his batting average was .306. The following season to 1953, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he would go on to have one of his best seasons in 1954, hitting .293 and, along with his erratic fielding in good weather, earned him his lone selection to the National League All-Star team.
Frank Baumholtz retired from professional baseball after the 1955 season, finishing his career with a batting average of .291, 1,070 hits, 263 runs batted in, 526 runs, and 70 stolen bases in 1,056 games. He later continued his baseball career as a minor league coach and returned to his hometown in Ohio, where he worked in the sand and gravel business. Baumholtz will be remembered for his contributions on the field, especially his versatility, speed, and clutch hitting. He left an indelible mark on the sport he loved and the fans who admired him.
