After his playing career, Haney became a coach for teams like the St. Louis Browns and Chicago Cubs. However, his most notable achievements came as a manager for the Milwaukee Braves and the Los Angeles Angels. Haney led the Milwaukee Braves to two consecutive National League pennants in 1957 and 1958, and he won the World Series in 1957 against the New York Yankees. He also managed the Angels for three seasons in the early 1960s, where he helped develop and mentor future Hall of Famers Nolan Ryan and Jim Fregosi.

Haney earned a reputation as an astute strategist, a gifted teacher, and an expert in player development. He was greatly admired by his players and fellow managers, and he was renowned for his ability to get the best out of his team. Fred Haney passed away on November 9, 1977, at the age of 81.
