Fred Stanley Autographs

Fredrick John Stanley was a professional baseball player who played as a shortstop, a position which he excelled at. Often referred to as "Chicken," Stanley was born on August 13, 1947, in Farnham, Quebec, Canada. He began his baseball career at age 18 when he signed with the Boston Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 1966. However, he did not make his major league debut until 1969.
After four seasons with the Red Sox, Fred was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 1977. He also played for the Cleveland Indians and the San Diego Padres before being signed by the New York Yankees in 1979. In his first year with the Yankees, he played in 115 games and helped the team win the American League pennant. In his second year, he played in fewer games but had a higher batting average, putting up a .300 average. He continued to play for the Yankees until his retirement in 1982, contributing to their success as they won back-to-back World Series in 1978 and 1979.
Overall, Fred Stanley played in 972 games over 12 seasons, ending his career with an average of .216. He was known for his defense and his speed, with a career total of 106 stolen bases. Despite his low batting average, he was a valuable asset to the teams he played for, contributing with his fielding and base-running skills. After his retirement, he worked as a coach and later as an instructor for the Kansas City Royals organization. Fred Stanley passed away at age 77 on August 7, 2021, leaving behind a legacy as an accomplished baseball player.
