Peterson's career highlights include winning 20 games for the first time in his career in 1970 and leading the American League with a 2.90 earned run average (ERA) in 1971. He was also selected for the MLB All-Star Game in 1970 and 1971. Peterson was known for his pinpoint control, which he demonstrated when he set the MLB record for fewest walks per nine innings pitched in 1971, with a mark of 1.03 walks per nine innings.

Unfortunately, Peterson's career was also marred by off-field controversies, the most notable of which involved him and fellow Yankees player Mike Kekich swapping wives in a highly publicized event in 1973. Peterson's career came to an end in 1976 when he was traded to the Cleveland Indians, where he finished the season with a 9-13 record and a 4.34 ERA. He retired from baseball at the end of the season, with a total of 133 wins, 131 losses, and a 3.30 ERA in his career. Read even more about Fritz Peterson at Wikipedia
