Gary Alexander Autographs
Gary Alexander was an American professional baseball player born on March 22, 1948, in Poteet, Texas. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for ten seasons from 1971 to 1981. Alexander started his career with the Oakland Athletics and played for them from 1971 till 1976, where he gained fame as a catcher with a powerful throwing arm, throwing out 46% of the runners trying to steal bases in 1974. Alexander also played for the Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians, and Pittsburgh Pirates during his career.
Alexander's best season came in 1977 when he played for the Texas Rangers, where he had a .298 batting average, 27 home runs, and 90 runs batted in (RBI). He finished fourth in the American League for home runs and fifth in the league for RBI. However, he struggled with shoulder injuries during his later years and was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1981 but played only 27 games for them before retiring at the end of the season. Alexander still remains a respected figure in the baseball community, known for his strong and accurate throwing arm, and his success as a catcher.
After retiring from professional baseball, Alexander returned to his hometown of Castroville, Texas. He was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008, which recognizes contributions to baseball by individuals from the state of Texas. Alexander is remembered as a talented catcher who had a significant impact on the teams he played for, and his contributions to the sport will forever be cherished by his fans.
