Gene Richards Autographs
Gene Richards was born on September 29, 1953, in Monticello, Arkansas. He was a successful baseball outfielder who played for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants in the Major League Baseball (MLB). Richards attended Arkansas State University, where he played baseball and basketball. Later, he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 1975 and started his professional baseball career.
Richards played for the Padres from 1977 until 1983. He was a promising player, known for his quickness, agility, and his ability to steal bases. He was the National League (NL) leader in stolen bases for two consecutive years (1980-1981). Richards's batting average during his career was .290 with 319 stolen bases. In addition, he became the first player in Padres history to have three 40+ stolen bases seasons in a row.
After spending seven years with the Padres, Richards went on to play for the San Francisco Giants for two seasons, from 1984 to 1985. While a Giant, Richards had to put up with both injuries and inconsistency. He ended up retiring in 1985 with .290/.361/.344 batting statistics, and he returned to his alma mater, Arkansas State, to become a hitting coach. In conclusion, Gene Richards was an excellent baseball player who left his mark on the MLB, particularly with the San Diego Padres, where he spent most of his career.
