George Bell is a retired Dominican professional baseball player, who was born on October 21, 1959, in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. Bell began his baseball career in the minor leagues in 1978 when he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. He played for several minor league teams before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 1980. Bell's breakout year came in 1987, when he won the American League MVP award. He had a tremendous season, hitting .308 with 47 home runs and 134 RBIs. Bell's power and hitting ability made him a feared hitter and a key member of the Blue Jays team that won the AL East division in 1985, 1989, and 1991.
