Brunet began his baseball career playing in the minor leagues for several years before being called up by the Baltimore Orioles in 1956. He played for various teams during his major league career, including the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Colt .45s, California Angels, and Milwaukee Brewers. Brunet's career highlights included being the first player to be traded to the newly established Houston Colt .45s, which later became the Houston Astros.
