George Crowe was an American baseball player who made his mark in the Negro leagues in the 1940s and 50s. He was born in Whiteland, Indiana, in 1921 and began playing baseball at an early age. In 1943, he joined the Indianapolis Clowns, and his powerful hitting soon caught the attention of major league scouts. After a brief stint with the New York Giants, Crowe spent several seasons with the Boston Braves, where he became one of the most feared power hitters in the National League. More about George Crowe

Crowe was a first baseman who possessed excellent defensive skills and a powerful arm. His true strength, however, was his hitting ability. He was known for his long home runs and clutch hitting, and his career batting average was an impressive .270. In 1957, Crowe had his best season, hitting 31 home runs and driving in 92 runs for the Cincinnati Reds.
