Gil Coan Autographs

Gil CoanGil Coan was an American baseball player who played for the Major League Baseball team, Washington Senators. Born on May 18, 1922, in Monroe, North Carolina, Coan started his baseball career in the minor leagues in 1940. He made his major league debut with the Senators in 1946 and played outfielder for the team for six seasons.
Coan is best known for his speed and agility on the field. He was a solid player who always hustled and was a great base stealer. In 1951, he set a single-season record of 31 stolen bases, which stood for a decade. He was also known for his great batting eye and had a career batting average of .254 with 32 home runs and 266 runs batted in. Coan played his final season in the major leagues in 1956 before retiring from baseball.
After retiring from baseball, Gil Coan worked for the North Carolina State University Athletics Department as a fundraiser. He was also inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1984. Coan passed away on January 7, 2020, at the age of 97, leaving behind a legacy as one of the best outfielders to come out of North Carolina. His contributions to baseball remain acknowledged by the many records he holds, accomplishments he made, and the many young players he inspired.
