Gil Hodges is a legendary name when it comes to baseball. Born on April 4th, 1924, in Princeton, Indiana, Hodges' career in baseball began when he was just 18 years old. He started playing baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the year 1943. Hodges was primarily known as a first baseman and played for Dodgers for a period of 12 years until 1957. One of Hodges' most significant records was his 42 home runs and 130 RBIs in 1954, the same year in which he played all 154 games of the season. This feat earned him both the National League's Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player honors. Hodges was also an important part of the Brooklyn Dodgers team that won the 1955 World Series.

Hodges moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958 when the team moved from Brooklyn. He retired as a player in 1963, and soon after, he began his career in managing teams. Hodges is famous for managing the New York Mets team during their iconic 1969 season when they won their first World Series. This made him an important figure in Mets' history.
