Burke's best season was in 1977, where he played in 64 games and had a batting average of .252 with 2 home runs and 16 RBI's. However, while Burke was known for his exceptional skills on the field, his career was unfortunately cut short due to bigotry caused by his sexual orientation. He was gay and came out to his teammates and the media in 1978, which caused tension in the clubhouse. Tragically, he experienced discrimination from his Dodger teammates, who began to distance themselves from him, and was then traded to the Oakland Athletics in 1978.

Despite his talent and accomplishments, Burke left professional baseball in 1980 due to a career-ending injury. Nevertheless, he made a significant impact on the game and the LGBTQ+ community. Glenn Burke was a trailblazer, as he was one of the first openly gay professional athletes in history. In 2020, Burke was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Reliquary’s Shrine of the Eternals, which is a tribute to both the on-field and off-the-field contributions of significant players. His bravery and perseverance in the face of bigotry have made him a symbol of hope for many athletes and individuals who face similar struggles. Read even more about Glenn Burke at Wikipedia
