However, it was with the New York Yankees that Nettles achieved the most success. Nettles played with the Yankees for eleven seasons from 1973 to 1984. During his time with the team, he helped lead them to two World Series championships in 1977 and 1978. In the 1978 World Series, Nettles made one of the greatest defensive plays in baseball history. In Game 3, he made five spectacular plays at third base, including a diving catch and a backhanded stop of a hard-hit ball, helping the Yankees win the game and ultimately the series. He was also named an All-Star five times during his career, and his number 9 was retired by the Yankees in 1988.

Nettles retired from baseball after the 1988 season with 390 home runs, 1,314 RBIs, and a .248 batting average. He was widely regarded as one of the best defensive third basemen of his time and was inducted into the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame in 1999. Since retiring from baseball, Nettles has remained involved in the sport, most recently serving as a coach for the University of San Diego baseball team. He continues to be remembered as one of the best and most iconic players in New York Yankees history. Read even more about Graig Nettles at Wikipedia
