Gus Triandos

Gus Triandos was an American baseball player born on July 30, 1930, in San Francisco, California. Triandos began his professional baseball career in 1948 as a catcher in the minor leagues. He later joined the major leagues playing for the New York Yankees from 1953 to 1954 before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 1955, where he played for nine seasons. More about Gus Triandos

During his career, Triandos was known for being a solid defensive catcher with a powerful arm that earned him three Gold Glove Awards. He was also a formidable hitter with a career .245 average and 167 home runs. In 1958, Triandos was named to the All-Star team, and in 1960 he hit a career-high of 30 home runs, solidifying his place in baseball history.

After retiring in 1965, Triandos took on various coaching positions and later worked as a color commentator for the Orioles. He was inducted into the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame in 1981, and in 2019, the City of San Francisco honored him with a dedicated street sign in recognition of his contributions to the sport.
