After completing his high school education, Reynolds joined the Portland State University on a baseball scholarship where he played for three seasons. Reynolds played a total of 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) between 1983 and 1994. During his career, he played with teams like Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, and California Angels. He was mainly known for his defensive skills and speed on the basepaths. In 1987, he won his first Gold Glove for his exceptional defensive skills at second base. He also led the American League in steals in 1987 and 1988. Throughout his career, Reynolds had a batting average of .258, scored 558 runs, had 1,233 hits, and achieved 353 RBI.

After retiring from baseball, Reynolds started a broadcasting career. He joined ESPN in 1996 as a studio analyst and made regular appearances on various shows like Baseball Tonight, SportsCenter, and Sunday Night Baseball. In addition to ESPN, Reynolds has also worked for MLB Network and Fox Sports. He is known for his in-depth analysis of the game and his ability to break down complex plays. He has won numerous awards for his work as a broadcaster, including the CableACE Award and the Sports Emmy Award.
