Harry Craft Autographs
Harry Craft, born on April 19, 1915, was an American baseball player, manager, and scout. He began his baseball career in 1937 as a center fielder for the Cincinnati Reds. Over his seven-year playing career, Harry accumulated a .219 batting average with 119 RBIs and 16 home runs.
Craft's true calling came after his playing days, when he became a manager and scout for several teams. He began his managerial career in 1948 with the minor league Kansas City Blues and led them to a first-place finish in his first year. In 1950, Harry was named manager of the Cincinnati Reds and held the position for three seasons, leading them to their first pennant in 20 years in 1961. He also managed the Kansas City Athletics, Houston Colt .45s, and the Chicago Cubs before retiring from managing in 1964.
Harry Craft was known for his contributions as a scout as well. He scouted for the Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, and Kansas City Royals, helping them build successful teams. Craft played a significant role in signing future Hall of Famers George Brett and Albert Pujols. Harry passed away on August 3, 1995, at the age of 80, but his legacy in baseball as a player, manager, and scout will always be remembered.
