Bush grew up in Mississippi and attended East Central Community College before transferring to the University of New Orleans, where he played collegiate baseball. He played for the Padres for one season before being traded to the New York Yankees in 1998. With the Yankees, Bush became a key player in the team's World Series-winning season in 1998.
