Pollet’s career peaked in the late 1940s when he was a key player for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1946, he had a record of 21-10 and helped his team win the World Series. He was named to the NL All-Star team in 1943, 1946, and 1947. Pollet continued to play at the highest level until 1956, when he retired with a lifetime career record of 131-116 and an impressive 3.51 ERA.

After his playing career ended, Howie Pollet stayed connected to baseball by becoming a coach and a scout. He worked for the Cardinals, Phillies, and Pirates in various coaching roles during the 1960s and 1970s. He was also a scout for the Pirates for many years and helped them recruit some of the top talents in the sport. Pollet’s contributions to the game were recognized in 1974 when he was inducted into the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame.
