Hughie Critz Autograph

Hughie Critz was one of the great second basemen to have played professional baseball during the 1920s and 1930s. Born on September 17, 1900, in Starkville, Mississippi, Critz showed a natural talent for baseball from a young age. He started playing organized baseball at the age of 16 for a local team in his hometown. Critz's baseball career gained momentum when he was picked up by the Cincinnati Reds. In his first season with the team, he led the National League in stolen bases with 28, and he went on to help the team win the pennant in 1939. During his time with the Reds, Critz became a respected player known for his excellent fielding, hard-nosed approach, and clutch hitting ability. He spent a total of six years with the Reds before being traded to the Boston Braves where he played for two years before retiring at the end of the 1940 season.

Critz's dedication and passion for the game of baseball are still celebrated today. He was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 1966 and became a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1967. Hughie Critz's baseball career remains a source of inspiration to aspiring players and fans alike, and his legacy continues to live on in baseball's history as one of the great second basemen of his time.
