Putz began his baseball career in college, where he played for the University of Michigan Wolverines. He then signed with the Seattle Mariners in 1999, where he spent his first six seasons in the minor leagues before making his debut in the MLB in 2003. Putz was a dominant closer for Seattle and recorded 79 saves in three seasons before being traded to the New York Mets in 2008. He played only one season with the Mets before signing with the Chicago White Sox in 2009, but his performance was hindered by injury. In 2011, Putz joined the Arizona Diamondbacks and had a career-high of 45 saves in 2011-2012, helping the team win the National League West division. However, injuries continued to plague Putz, and he retired in 2015, leaving a lasting legacy as one of the best closing pitchers of his time.

J.J. Putz’s outstanding baseball career saw him amass several accolades and achievements during his playing days. In 2003, he received the Mariner’s Unsung Hero Award, and in 2007 he was named into the American League All-Star team. Furthermore, he was awarded the AL Rolaids Relief Pitcher Award in the same year, along with the Mariner’s Pitcher of the Year Award.
