Kramer made his debut in the MLB with the St. Louis Browns in 1939. He played in the MLB for 12 seasons with different teams such as St. Louis Browns, Boston Red Sox, and San Francisco Giants. Kramer’s best season in the MLB was in 1949 when he played for the Boston Red Sox. He won 18 games and had a 3.09 ERA, leading the team to the American League pennant. In the same year, he was selected to play in the MLB All-Star Game. Kramer had good control and was an accurate pitcher, he ranked in the top ten of the American League for fewest walks per 9 innings pitched for 4 seasons. He also played in the World Series in 1951 with the New York Giants.

After retiring from professional baseball in 1951, Kramer served as the Executive Director of the Men’s Professional Tennis Council, where he modernized the professional sport by its players’ rights and increased their earnings. He was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 1976 and the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2007.
