Jackie Hernandez was a Puerto Rican baseball player who was born on November 11, 1940. He began his professional baseball career in 1959 when he started playing for the Montreal Royals. He was then signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates and made his major league debut on August 2, 1965. The highlight of his career came in 1971 when he helped the Pirates win the World Series against the Baltimore Orioles. Hernandez's playing career spanned from 1959 to 1973, during which he played for several teams including Montreal, Pittsburgh, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Kansas City Royals. He was known for his defensive skills, particularly at shortstop. He was a speedy player and had a strong arm, which made him a valuable asset on the field.
