Jake Bauers is an American professional baseball player who was born on October 6, 1995, in Newport Beach, California. He is currently an outfielder and first baseman for the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball (MLB). Bauers started his baseball career when he was just five years old, playing in the American Little League. As a teenager, he attended Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California, where he was a standout player on the baseball team.
Bauers was selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB draft, and he spent four seasons in the Padres' minor league system. In 2018, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays and made his MLB debut on June 7 of that year. With the Rays, Bauers played in 96 games in 2018 and hit .201 with 11 home runs and 48 RBIs. However, he struggled in 2019, batting just .226 with 12 home runs and 43 RBIs in 107 games.
In December 2019, the Rays traded Bauers to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for outfielder prospect Ruben Cardenas. Bauers played in just 43 games for the Indians in 2020, hitting .200 with six RBIs. In January 2021, the Indians designated Bauers for assignment, and he was subsequently traded to the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations. Bauers has played in 25 games for the Mariners so far in 2021, hitting .206 with two home runs and six RBIs. At just 25 years old, Bauers has already had a varied career in MLB, and he will look to continue improving as he plays with the Mariners.
