Jake WoodJake Wood is a retired American professional baseball player who was born on July 23, 1936, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was a talented second baseman who played for different teams during his career, including the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, and Houston Colt .45s. Wood started playing baseball at an early age, and his skills quickly caught the attention of his coaches and fans. He was known for his agility, speed, and excellent fielding abilities, making him one of the most sought-after players in his time.
Wood's professional baseball career began in 1957 when he was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the amateur draft. He made his debut on April 10, 1961, and he quickly established himself as a solid player both at bat and in the field. His most outstanding performance came in 1962, where he hit .290, stole 30 bases, and scored 94 runs, which earned him a spot in the All-Star Game. Wood continued to play for the Tigers until 1964 when he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. He retired in 1967 after playing for the Houston Colt .45s for a year, but his reputation as an excellent athlete and talented baseball player remains to this day.
