Jason Phillips is a former professional baseball player who played as a catcher, first baseman, and outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) for eight seasons. He was born on September 27, 1976, in La Mesa, California, and grew up in San Diego. Phillips attended the University of San Diego High School, where he played baseball and football. After graduating in 1994, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 24th round of the MLB draft but decided to attend San Diego State University to play college baseball. More about Jason Phillips

Phillips played college baseball for three seasons at San Diego State University before being drafted by the New York Mets in the 24th round of the 1999 MLB draft. He rapidly climbed through the Mets' minor league system and made his MLB debut on June 2, 2001. During his rookie season, Phillips played in 123 games, hit six home runs, and recorded a batting average of .298. He continued to play for the Mets until 2004 before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2005 season.
