Jason Schmidt is a former Major League Baseball pitcher from the United States. He was born on January 29, 1973, in Lewiston, Washington, and spent most of his early life playing baseball. Schmidt's professional baseball career began when he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the eighth round of the 1991 Major League Baseball draft. In 1996, Schmidt was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he got his first real opportunity to display his talents as a starting pitcher. He played with the Pirates for six seasons and had his best season in 2003, where he pitched a career-high 219 innings and struck out 208 batters. In 2006, Schmidt signed with the San Francisco Giants, where he had the best years of his career.
