Jeff Kunkel Autographs
Jeff Kunkel was born on March 25, 1962, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He attended Florida Southern College where he excelled in baseball. As a freshman, he hit .301 with five home runs, contributing towards Florida Southern's National Championship run. Kunkel played four seasons for Florida Southern, and although he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round of the 1983 draft, he decided to finish his degree before pursuing a career in the Minor Leagues.
In his professional career, Jeff Kunkel played for three teams - Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Cleveland Indians. He spent seven seasons with the Rangers, where he played primarily as a shortstop. In his first full season with the Rangers in 1985, he hit .231 in 126 games. Kunkel was known for his defense and versatility, playing all infield positions and even some outfield. He is remembered for his clutch home run in Game 2 of the 1986 American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox, which helped the Rangers win their first playoff game in franchise history. Kunkel played his last major league game in 1995, finishing with a lifetime batting average of .241 and 19 home runs in 697 games.
After retiring from baseball, Jeff Kunkel co-founded the Kunkel Leadership Academy, which provides motivational speaking and leadership coaching for teams, organizations, and individuals. He was also a baseball analyst for Fox Sports Southwest and hosted a sports talk radio show in Texas. Kunkel continues to be involved in baseball, serving as a coach and instructor at various camps and clinics. His contribution to the sport and dedication to leadership make him a respected figure in both baseball and business communities.
