Jeff Newman

Jeff Newman is a former Major League Baseball player, coach, and manager. He was born on June 11, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas. He began playing baseball in high school and played for the San Francisco Giants after being drafted in 1969. Newman played as a catcher for the Giants and then played for the Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros, and Boston Red Sox. He was known for his defense and his ability to catch knuckleballs. After retiring from his playing career, Newman continued to work in baseball as a coach and manager. He served as the bullpen coach for the Texas Rangers and the hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics. In 1986, Newman became the manager of the Oakland Athletics but was fired after one season. He then went on to coach for several other teams including the Detroit Tigers and the San Diego Padres. He retired from baseball in 2002.

Throughout his baseball career, Jeff Newman was known for his dedication to the game and his ability to teach others. He was a respected figure in the sport and his contributions to baseball are still remembered today. Newman was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001, recognizing his achievements both as a player and a coach.
