Pico was a standout pitcher in high school and college, which led to him being drafted by the Cubs in the 1st round of the 1988 MLB draft. He made his debut for the Cubs on May 16, 1988, against the New York Mets. He played a total of 118 games in his career, with an average ERA of 4.63 and a record of 16-30. He was known for his consistent and reliable performances as a reliever.

After retiring from baseball, Pico became a coach and worked his way up through the minor leagues. He served as a pitching coach for several major league teams, including the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Seattle Mariners. He now resides in Arizona and continues to work in the baseball industry as a scout and consultant.
