Jeff Russell Autographs
Jeff Russell is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher who played for Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1983 to 1996. Born on September 2nd, 1961, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he attended the University of Cincinnati and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth round of the 1982 MLB June Amateur Draft. Russell started his professional baseball career as a starting pitcher and made his MLB debut with the Reds in 1983 as a reliever.
Jeff Russell played for six teams during his MLB career, including the Cincinnati Reds, Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, and the Chicago White Sox. He spent the majority of his career with the Texas Rangers, where he established himself as one of the reliable relief pitchers in the league. In 1989, he recorded his first All-Star selection after posting a 6-3 record with a 1.98 ERA and 38 saves, which earned him the American League "Fireman of the Year" award.
During his career, Jeff Russell appeared in 714 games with a 56-66 record, 186 saves, and a 3.74 ERA. He also pitched in two World Series with the Oakland Athletics in 1990 and the Texas Rangers in 1996. After retiring from the game in 1996, he returned to his alma mater, the University of Cincinnati, to complete his bachelor's degree in marketing. In 2009, he was inducted into the University of Cincinnati Athletics Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to the game of baseball.
