Jerome Walton is a former American baseball player who was born on July 8, 1965, in Newnan, Georgia. He played as an outfielder and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 1986 Major League Baseball Draft. Walton's professional career began in 1989, where he made an immediate impact, winning the league's Rookie of the Year Award. His impressive performance helped lead the Cubs to the National League Championship Series in that same year. Walton's baseball career spanned eight seasons, during which he played for six different teams, including the Cubs, the California Angels, the Cincinnati Reds, the Atlanta Braves, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
During his time with the Cubs, Walton showcased his skills as an outfielder and a hitter. In his rookie season, Walton batted .293 with 24 stolen bases and 46 runs batted in. The following year, he hit .272 with eight home runs, 39 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. Unfortunately, Walton struggled with injuries in the following years, which contributed to a decline in his performance. However, he was still able to make significant contributions to other teams throughout his career. Walton finished out his career with a batting average of .269, 19 home runs, 112 RBIs, and 73 stolen bases.
In addition to his regular season play, Jerome Walton also competed in the 1990 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. He was named a starter for the National League team, in part due to his impressive start to the season. Although his baseball career may have been relatively short, Walton's impact on the game was significant. His impressive rookie year earned him a place in baseball history and he continued to make valuable contributions to the sport throughout his career.
