During his time with the Blue Jays, Garvin was primarily used as a relief pitcher, appearing in 97 games over three seasons. He was known for his deceptive pitching style, which included throwing a knuckleball. Garvin was also an effective pitcher, posting a career earned run average (ERA) of 3.23.

Following his stint with the Blue Jays, Garvin played for several teams in both the United States and Canada. He eventually retired from professional baseball in 1982, finishing with a career record of 22 wins and 25 losses. After retiring from baseball, Garvin went on to serve as a scout and coach for various Major League Baseball teams.
