Jerry Koosman Autographs
Jerry Koosman is a former American baseball player who was born on December 23, 1942, in Appleton, Minnesota. Koosman was a left-handed pitcher who played for 19 seasons in the Major League Baseball (MLB). He was an integral part of the New York Mets' legendary 1969 World Series Championship team. Koosman was a two-time All-Star (1968, 1976) and was the runner-up for the National League Cy Young Award in 1976.
Koosman made his MLB debut on April 14, 1967, for the New York Mets. He started his career with an impressive 19-12 record and a 2.08 ERA. Koosman's most famous performance came in the 1969 World Series seventh game against the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched the complete game, gave up only five hits, and struck out six batters, leading the Mets to their first-ever World Series title. Koosman finished with a 222–209 record, a 3.36 ERA, and 2,556 strikeouts in his 19-year career.
Koosman played for several teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies, before retiring in 1985 as a member of the Minnesota Twins. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1989, and his uniform number 36 was retired by the team in 2020. Koosman's contribution to the game of baseball is incomparable. He was an outstanding pitcher who played a vital role in the Mets' historical run in 1969 and will always remain a vital part of the team's history.
