Jim Acker Autographs
Jim Acker was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Seattle Mariners from 1983 to 1992. He was born on September 24, 1958, in Freer, Texas, and began his baseball career at the University of Texas where he played college baseball. Jim Acker was known for his excellent fastball which consistently clocked in the high 80s and his command of the strike zone.
In 1983, Jim Acker was picked in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves. In his first game as a starter against the San Francisco Giants, he pitched six shutout innings and recorded five strikeouts. He then spent time with the Braves before joining the Toronto Blue Jays in 1985. Acker is perhaps best known for his performance in the playoffs when he helped the Blue Jays defeat the Oakland Athletics in 1989. He had a 0.93 ERA in that series and was instrumental in the Blue Jays' trip to the American League Championship Series.
Jim Acker played his final major league season with the Seattle Mariners in 1992, finishing his career with a record of 38-49, an ERA of 3.97, and 458 strikeouts. Following his professional baseball career, Acker coached and mentored young baseball players. He passed away on June 24, 2017, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 58, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of baseball.
