Gott was a right-handed pitcher who played for several MLB teams from 1982 to 1995, including the Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Gott was known for his fastball and his sinker, which made him a reliable pitcher in his time. Gott’s professional career began in 1982 when he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinal. Gott pitched well enough to get a spot on the major league roster as a reliever, where he quickly made his mark with a fastball that reached the low-to-mid 90s. In 1984, Gott had a career-high of 11 saves and emerged as one of the Cardinals’ most reliable relief pitchers. Gott was traded to the Blue Jays in 1987, and he continued his success as a closer.
